STORY: Eva MacNeil (Janson Folk)
Drawing her picture stories on flattened brown paper bags, Eva knew from an early age that she would pursue a creative life. Saturday morning craft classes at the local community school w by far her happiest hours of the week. Without knowing much about the industry and relying on a hunch, Eva enrolled to George Brown College and consequently earned a Graphic Arts diploma. Perhaps it was divine intervention, but this proved to be a natural fit for her and she flourished in the field, despite the discouragement of a college instructor. Eva soon found herself as a Graphic Designer/Art Director in the advertising and publishing fields, while running a freelance business with a concentration in graphic design and photography.
Beginning as an Assembly Artist at a retail ad agency, she then moved on to become Graphic Artist at Scholastic Canada and Art Director at National Shopping Centre Promotions, followed by 11.5 years as Advertising Art Director at WeddingBells magazine (Canadian and American editions). Eva is currently a professor at Sheridan College, and holds a diploma in Graphic Arts, Bachelor of Arts degree in English, and Master of Science degree in Adolescence Education. Dipping into a variety of disciplines and industries has added up to solid experience that she nows shares with students. In addition to building a solid career in graphic design, she has also returned to her first loves of drawing and painting, where she once again spends her happiest hours of the week.
